We design, manufacture and install vandal guards to suit earth moving machinery. We actually have a sister business that specialises in this – Australian Vandal Guards. As we already punch out sheets of steel, it is very easy for us manufacture mesh or aluminium vandal guards. In fact, we are Australia’s leading supplier of Caterpillar vandal guards.

Vandal Guard Details

We maintain integrity of ROPS (Roll Over Protection Structure) systems by not drilling or welding to the certified ROPS cab.

We can freight vandal guard kits anywhere in Australia.

We manufacture guards and covers for protection of windows for all earth moving equipment.

Easy fitting and removal or bolt-on fixed with tamperproof screws

We manufacture solid guards, mesh guards and/or a combination of both.

All our removable guards are made with light weight 3mm aluminium.

We custom punched mesh panels in our own factory.

All steel panels powder coated.

Nylon protective channel on all outer edges.

Isolation mounts where required.

A lot of our work is prototype before it goes into full production. That can be anything from a half-hour job up to $50,000 jowith no minimum requirements. It can still be a prototype. That’s what we do really. We don’t do mass production.

We manufacture

Custom fabricated sheet metal products

Acoustic enclosures

Vandal guards for earth moving machinery

Signage & point of sale displays

Metal covers, metal boxes and cabinets

Metal panels

Custom metal shelving & brackets

Metal electronics components

Wes specialise in prototype work and if a company wants just one cut of something before they go into mass production, you can then do that for them.

Do you work with tubing?

With tubing the one we use most is probably the 50 x 50 x 1.6 Dura-valve square tube. We use that to make frames, enclosures. It’s light. It’s strong. It’s what we use most of. We also do a lot of round tube for exhaust systems or for anything … we keep stock with most things like that. Again, going back to square tubing, we work a lot with up to 100 x 100, probably to 6 mm thick. We’re going to go bigger but not a lot. So we get a big range of tube on the rack because there’s always something different that’s required.

Do you do machining?

We have another company that does a lot of work for us where they do all machining. They are fitters and turners by trade. We’ve been working with them for over ten years and they supply us with parts that we buy. So anything like that, we get a reliable contractor.

Do you do powder coating?

We don’t do powder coating but we have a powder coater and he’s very good and we use him. We probably send stuff there three times a week. Very reliable, good quality and, if there’s any job we need in a hurry, we can put the pressure on them and they’ll look out for us.

We can also get anything wet sprayed as well, so it might be a two-pack epoxy finish and just a different paint system. We need a reliable contractor to do that. And I’ll tell you, the painting is important to the finishing part. Some customers they don’t want to paint at all – they do it themselves.

The turret punch is capable of doing … all their punches are patterned into the strip of steel so we draw the product on AutoCAD, and we brought in a flat pattern and then from there we program it into the turret punch machine and put the sheet of steel in and bang, bang, bang it. Ir will put on different circles and squares and whatever other shapes it needs to cut out the two-dimensional pattern, which we will then take, fold up and finish off into the final product.
It’s capable of doing 6 mm mild steel but we don’t do a lot above 3 mm just because we don’t have the need for it. They’re capable of doing 6 mm. It’s good machine if you’re basically doing multiples of the same thing. So if you’re going to make 100 brackets exactly the same, then you can just punch them all out and you know all holes are going to be the same and not relying on people drilling holes accurately. Everything’s exactly the same.

Some companies have laser cutters to do the same thing but a laser cutter is a lot more expensive and we don’t need it. The turret punch does exactly what we need.

So once we’ve punched out the blank, we then take it to either of the folding machines so the pan brake or brake press..

And the brake press is fully programmable so it will have a program in there if it’s a repeat job. We program it – it could be for a tray or a bracket or an enclosure panel, and then we just program it in, find the program number if you’re going back to it. That way, you just feed them one after another and it’ll just keep folding it exactly the same.

We work with various sheet metal types including:

aluminium

galvanised mild steel

uncoated mild steel, also known as hot rolled.

stainless steel

</ br>
Aluminium

We use a lot of aluminium, mostly aluminium tread plate which we use to make vandal guards. That’s 3mm aluminium tread plate. We also do a lot of trays, drip trays and environmental trays that fit in to most machines to catch any oil drips. They’re generally aluminium to keep the weight down.

Stainless Steel

Any of the products that we manufacture as galvanised or mild steel we can do in stainless steel, depending on the environment. If the sheet metal product will be beside the beach somewhere then we would recommend using 316 stainless steal so it doesn’t corrode. Or if it was close to a water treatment plant where there were chemicals, then we would use stainless steel. There are a few different grades of stainless steel, but the two main ones are 304 and 316. And 316 is the most common that we use because it provides the best protection against corrosion.
